Reconstructive Cosmetic Implant DentistryIncreasing Patient Choice for Tooth CosmeticsCrownsDental crowns are fabricated with a choice of materials that can produce nearly any desired change in the way a tooth fits, feels, appears in terms of size, appears in terms of color matching adjacent teeth and of course tooth replacement for broken teeth or missing teeth.
Preparing a tooth for a new crown(s) is invasive to a degree that, today, more and more patients seek to avoid or at least have an option to replace with a less or minimally invasive alternative. VeneersVeneers too, have invasive prep characteristics which has led the dental industry to develop what is now three levels of "invasiveness." No prep veneers, mid prep and no prep veneers offer patients more and more control over how much of their natural tooth structures are modified to accommodate a new restoration for achieving a functional and cosmetic goal.NonInvasive - Minimally Invasive Dentistry: Patient Control
Everyone's dental conditions are different as are the characteristics of their individual teeth. Dr. Scalzitti seeks to avoid the over preparation of any tooth, a procedure that has caused unnecessary treatment failures for many patients who have had veneer work or crown and bridge treatments that seem to cause new problems of extreme sensitivity and, in some cases, the need for root canal treatments. Treatment Example: Veneer Instead of a Crown
The preparation shown in the picture represents minor modification to our patient's tooth structure. Arrangements were made beforehand to assure the ortho procedures would create sufficient space for a modified tooth structure, in terms of width. The condition of peg laterals (baby teeth - a common congenital abnormality) or undersized bicuspids/incisors is commonly treated with the placement of dental crowns. Our patient, despite his young age, however, was well aware of the degree of invasive tooth prep that is normally associated with replacing or modifying the outward appearance of a tooth with common cosmetic crown procedures. He simply did not want to have his tooth ground down unncessarily to accommodate a traditional dental crown. Patient Input Defines Range of Treatment Options
Our dental lab, known for it's superb color matching technologies, created a custom veneer laminate that offered not only the color matching desired (difficult to achieve in single unit veneer dentistry) but possessed characteristics of bulk and buccal dimension that created a tooth resizing ressult that matched the sizing and bite characteristics of existing, symmetrical tooth structures. Patient Education Begets More Choices
Minimally Invasive DentistryTooth sensitivity and pain discomfort that can result from a variety of tooth (teeth) treatments that involve preparation of existing tooth structures (root canals, RCT retreatments, tooth cracks and fractures, filling replacements, crown replacement and common bridgework) are post operative conditions that can be avoided for many patients.
We encourage all prospective impatients to inquire about their candidacy for non invasive treatment options.
